Proposals for new Local Network boundary areas – Durham County Council
The deadline for comments is 5pm on 20 September 2024.
- SEND Exclusive Play Sessions – Peterlee Leisure Centre
Please see the attached poster providing details on a new, monthly SEND exclusive soft play session at Peterlee Leisure Centre, starting on Sunday 1 September, 9am – 10am.
The first session in September is free of charge, then £3 per child thereafter.
The café will be open for refreshments too.
- Customer Access Points
Customer Access Points provide an appointment-based service which offer advice, support or act as a signposting mechanism to all the Council Services. This covers Council Tax, Benefits, Blue Badge, Highways, Welfare Assistance, and all other general enquiries.
The advice and support cover everything from assisting completion of and understanding of forms/notification of Council forms or supporting agencies such as DWP and Housing Associations.
We can support our customers in completing forms digitally either on our self-service PCs or on their own devices.

Help with buying items for school – Durham County Council
- East Durham AAP Capital Grants Fund – Coming Soon
East Durham AAP recognises the need to support communities in East Durham and will be inviting expressions of interest for project that meet the priorities of:
- Maintaining the Social Fabric of our Communities
- Supporting community buildings
- Supporting volunteers
- Supporting vulnerable people in our community
- Neighbourhoods and Place:
- Place and regeneration
- Community safety
- The green agenda
- Children, Young People and Families
Funding of £5,000 will be available for capital projects that meet our aims. Examples of eligible projects include:
- Building and refurbishment works
- Environmental improvements
- Play areas
- ICT equipment
Only not for profit constituted organisations are eligible to receive a Capital Grant, these can include:
- Voluntary and Community Sector organisations
- Statutory bodies including DCC Services, Police, Fire and Health Bodies
- Parish and Town Councils
- Schools and Colleges
The grants fund will launch for applications following the AAP Board meeting on Wednesday 11 September. Due to changes in funding rules applicants will need to demonstrate that all permissions (including planning permission and landlord’s consent) are in place on submission and that three quotes have been obtained for works over £5,000.

Theatre Company Ensemble ’84 has gone live with an open call for Performers.

Open days will be held every Friday from 2pm to 6pm until 13 September at Horden Methodist Church.
11.Supporting County Durham to Quit Smoking
A free 12-week programme is on offer to local tobacco smokers over the age of 12. This includes behaviour change support with highly skilled Specialist Practitioners, free Nicotine Replacement Therapy products including free vapes as part of the government “swap to stop” scheme and a supportive app for phone users. Vapes are not available to under 18s or pregnant people.
As a specialised service, the team works in a number of local settings across County Durham including Primary Care (GPs & pharmacies), Secondary Care (hospitals & specialist clinics) as well as community venues.
People can get booked in straight away for a face-to-face or telephone appointment at one of the 90+ weekly clinics. Appointments are available 8am – 8pm. All they need to do is get in touch!
